Enjoyed this book from beginning to end! I was fully engaged! Aside from a few misspellings throughout the book, it was easy to follow. The prologue was a nice bit of the authors background and was a great introduction to the story that precedes. It has great character development and is packed with so much detail! From the characters to the coffee they drink, to the smells and the way the cities are described. I felt like I was there in real time. I have to say my favorite chapter was “Alas, James Bond”, what can I say I’m a sucker for a little bit of romance. If you’re looking for an engaging story, you should definitely give it a read. An intriguing story that explores Egyptian culture is just what I need for entertainment now. I am excited to see the historical facts included, and it’s great to see that the book is well executed as well. Youngreader720-OluwabukunmiWilliamsOso
I love when a book isn’t just entertaining, but also educational. I guess I stand to learn a lot about politics, the Egyptian culture, and even American pop with this novel.
Thanks for the review. Chandelier Eden
I found a friend who is Egyptian, and admire his attitude. This book tackles Egyptian culture, which I am interested in. I think it is rich in history. Your review is captivating. Congrats! Hazel Mae Bagarinao
This story is about two up-and-coming detectives, Flinders Petrie and Thomas Pettigrew, who take on a case of locating Cleopatra's tomb. They learn what they are capable of by involving themselves with people who are familiar with Cleopatra's history and location. In the process, the two detectives learn that their job wasn't all that simple. People died and lives were in danger, and that was just part of their job. I thought this story was well told with the two detectives becoming familiar with detective work. They referenced Sherlock Holmes and John Watson often, using them as their go-to for guidance on their journey toward accomplishing their first job. The side characters were well thought-out and had depth to them. I found it informative how the author included the history behind Cleopatra's life. I knew the story behind her before I read this book, so I was delighted that it was on-point, although with a twist. Overall, this was an enjoyable read. It had the right amount of intrigue, mystery, and action. Who should read this book: If you're into detective stories about traveling to ancient lands and having anything to do with historical events, this would be an excellent read. This book was a thrilling ride from beginning to end! I picked up this gem at random for something different and couldn't put it down. The author weaves together mystery, adventure, and a dash of humor in a way that keeps you guessing at every turn. The characters are relatable and charming, making the story all the more engaging. If you're into fast-paced, cleverly crafted heist tales, this one's for you. I enjoyed it. Shani K.

Funnily enough this is the second book I've read this month to reference Holmes and Watson. I loved this one so much more than the other. John Amos makes Pettigrew and Flinders so likable (albeit with their own flaws), and I found myself rooting for them to outshine the famous duo and find the tomb of Cleopatra for Lady Stanhope. "The Cleopatra Caper" was a charming and fast-paced thriller/mystery and I couldn't helped being sucked in by Amos' writing. I did find errors, but they didn't detract from the story to the point of some of the other reviewers. It felt as if this book my have been written in another language and translated into English. No biggie for me. Florence Chavez
I loved this storyline! I felt like I was reading an Indiana Jones script mixed with some Sherlock Holmes mystery to a degree. The story can drag at moments but does pick up speed. The language is fairly easy to understand but some grammatical issues do at times cause the reader to take pause to make sure what is meant to be conveyed is understood. It may cause pause for a moment but did not make reading the story any more difficult than normal. I personally loved the mix of ancient Egypt and present day rolled into one. The author is quite good at bringing history to life and being very descriptive of his characters. This absolutely adds an element where you feel like you are alongside Flinders and Pettigrew. If you love mysteries like Sherlock Holmes and fun historical fiction adventures like in Indiana Jones, then this is the book for you! I’d be more than happy to read more adventures of Flinders and Pettigrew in the future. Carleen Markivich
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2024 What a delightfully entertaining read! I thoroughly enjoyed the author's fresh take on Flinders and Pettigrew's escapades as they aspire to outshine the iconic Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. As an avid fan of the dynamic detective duo, I was particularly intrigued by this book's premise. Flinders and Pettigrew, hoping to catch some overflow business from Holmes and Watson's bustling office, find themselves embroiled in their own adventure when Flinders' uncle inadvertently sends a client their way: the enigmatic Lady Stanhope, seeking Cleopatra's Tomb. Thus begins a rollicking journey filled with danger, laughter, and plenty of sleuthing. The vivid descriptions of the settings and historical references add to the excitement of the tale. Despite a few typos that may cause a hiccup in the reading experience, the overall enjoyment of the story remains unaffected. From the very first chapter, this book is a captivating and entertaining ride that will keep you hooked until the very end. Rissa

I enjoyed this. Giving it 5 stars, even though I did find a few grammatical errors, it didn’t distract me from enjoying the book. Flinders and Pettigrew are two newbie detectives wanting to rise to the top like Sherlock and Holmes. They catch a case over seas and find all sorts of trouble. Looking forward to reading some more books featuring these two. Going along with both Flinders and Pettigrew as they solve a crime or locate a lost treasure! Jeanette Marie
In Cleopatra Caper you are following Flinders and Pettigrew. (this constantly reminded me of Peter Pettigrew from Harry Potter) These young men are striving to be great detectives. They've been partners for a little while but can't seem to catch the right case. And, it doesn't help that their biggest competitors are none other than Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. And, I could definitely see how Flinders and Pettigrew could in some aspect be compared to Holmes and Watson. Flinders being the more exciting of the two partners and Pettigrew being a doctor. Throughout the first chapter of the book you learn that there appears to be a bit of jealousy towards Holmes and Watson. After all, they are always busy with getting new cases and Flinders and Pettigrew are constantly seeing how busy their office is because it's directly across from their own office. After trying and trying they finally get their own big case, one that might bring all their worries to an end. Flinders decides to write to his Uncle Flinders to see if he could be of any help. And, after what seems like a lifetime of waiting, they get a response letting them know that Uncle Flinders is sending someone that has work for them to do. When this mysterious person finally arrives everything slowly starts to unfold and they learn that she wants them to work on what might be an extremely dangerous case. As it turns out, the mysterious lady, Lady Stanhope, needs help finding the tomb of Cleopatra. But, it seems as though a lot of people have died along the way of attempting such a task. This doesn't stop Flinders and Pettigrew. They want this chance to prove themselves as detectives. But, with the uncertainties of the case even they aren't sure if they will come out of this alive. If you want to learn more about this story read The Cleopatra Caper and you'll see what fate lies ahead. I want to end this with a little more insight and experience from my end with this book. I enjoyed the characters and I loved the playful interaction that they had amongst each other. I loved the depictions of scenery and at some points I could imagine going on this daring hunt myself. However, I did find some errors. I mainly discovered these throughout chapter one. But, I did find more in other parts of the book as well. These typos unfortunately made it hard to get through the story at some points. And, in some areas I had to stop reading and do some re-reading of paragraphs to make sure I understood what was supposed to have been said. Having said all that, I'm reviewing this book a little differently. Overall rating of The Cleopatra Caper I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars. But,with the inclusion of the typos and errors and other issues that I discovered throughout the book I give 3 out of 5 stars. SKYE
Enjoyed but at times felt lost I won this Kindle edition through a Goodreads giveaway, thanks for the giveaways because they expand my reading horizons! Throughout this book from the beginning I felt as though I was missing big chunks of the story and yes, I figured it must be part of a series! Yes I was correct and me myself not being a series gal wouldn't have entered this particular giveaway. With all that being said I clid finish in a day and it got me out if a major reading slump! John Amos's "The Case of the Stolen Goddess" is a thrilling mystery that evokes elements of both 007 and Indiana Jones, despite being firmly rooted in the mystery genre rather than espionage. Featuring an ensemble of striking female characters, the narrative sets up its detectives, Flinders Petrie and Thomas Pettigrew, as contemporaries who could rival Sherlock Holmes in their deductive prowess. Initially, I found myself a bit lost, unaware that this book followed a predecessor. Understanding this earlier connection would have likely enriched my reading experience. Between the two detectives. although Flinders is presented in a more charismatic light, I personally found Thomas Pettigrew more compelling The novel itself is accessible and engaging, with an intense finale that leaves some questions tantalizingly open, including a pivotal decision by Pettigrew. To uncover the mysteries yourself. I recommend diving into the book. Reading the first book in the series beforehand might enhance your appreciation and understanding of the characters and their dynamics Kanon M

Thank you to Net Galley for the arc. I want to start this review by acknowledging that there is a prequel to this book that I wasn't aware of when I started reading and that some of my problems with this book might have something to do with that lack of context. First for the positives. The premise and setting were so interesting (like Sherlock meets Indiana Jones?? Sign me up). I loved the archeology part and that historical figures like Freud and Poe were mentioned. You can also tell that the author is very knowledgeable about the setting and it was interesting to learn about. I've never read anything like this and would definitely pick up similar books in the future. The story was gripping and it was a quick read. Bia
What does a reading addict do when they find themselves on a plane and has accidentally packed their reading material in their checked bag? They sigh in relief remembering the Kindle app on their phone!! And so I found myself yesterday on a flight home, and decided this little nugget would be save me. This is a great read for Indiana Jones and The Mummy fans for the anthropological and archeological aspects to this adventure Flinders Petrie and Thomas Pettigrew (how great are those names) are in search of the statue of Aphrodite, which inconveniently has been stolen. This trek will take them to exotic places and collaborating with the oddest of characters, including a group of bellydancers. The antagonists are perfectly diabolical and the characters met along the way contribute to some downright silly moments. After completing this I just knew I was missing something and found this is a follow up novel, which makes sense. The dynamic between our two detectives had some inside jokes I felt needed some insight on, so I do wish I had read the first, while this can stand alone easily. I received this Kindle edition as a Goodreads giveaway, thank you to the author for a chance to read and review. Bonnie Smith
